Jason Calacanis is a bombastic, opinionated and self serving player in the technology blogging community. He is most known for starting fights with just about everyone as a way to garner attention for himself and his projects. My wife describes me similar to the way I would describe Jason, even when he is 10% right he argues like he is 100% right. Oh by the way, his side is on point way more than 10%. Because everything in the world exists in degrees Jason is one of those characters that even when he is right the WAY he makes his point is often abrasive and offensive and does not help his side or take. Which is why I for one can not stop reading his opinions and seemingly everyone else is also fascinated with his points of view (within the geeky nerdy world of blogging and technology).
Jason puts Facebook on blast with a poker tie-in
Here is an example of Jason's work where he talks about the "The Big Game" (he was invited to play on the first show) but ties in a nice comparison on why Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook are "overplaying their hand". Which I think will make the show infinitely more watchable.
"The Big Game" airs on June 14th on Fox
"The Big Game" will air on Fox on June 14th for the first time and hopefully the episodes will be made available online, it is a cash game similar to High Stakes Poker. That's right, Fox, not FoxSports like all of the other minor players in the industry. Why is it that PokerStars now has the NAPT on ESPN and now "The Big Game" on Fox while the WPT toils on FoxSports and Poker After Dark airs at 3am on NBC? Admittedly I do not know the time the show will air (@KevMath has heard midnight or 1am, which is lame ) but I just assume PokerStars is going to do it right because, well, they always seem to do it right and no one else does.
Speaking truth to Power
See what I did there, I embraced my inner Calacanis. While I am not sure if having Jason on "our side" when it comes to poker is a good thing I for one am glad he is with us. Jason is known for pointing out silly arcane rules when others would rather not get involved. There are a lot of people who love poker and could speak on our behalf but few do, so I'll take someone like Jason who is not scared to speak truth to power unlike many of the other people that enjoy poker and online poker daily.
@ceoofpoker that is cool, really looking forward to the episode.
Shootoman,
Isildur1 was scheduled to play in "The Big Game IV", a cash game by Matchroom Sport for European TV.
I was humbled to be on the show frankly... it was the thrill of a lifetime! Frankly, I've got more respect for Doyle, Daniel, Abe and Dave Williams than I do most CEOs I meet. These cats take real risks day in and day out... i think that is why poker speaks to me--and many startup founders--so much: risk is fun. :-)
Don't forget This Week in Startups episode #30 where Annie Duke appeared as a guest:

I think that was another event sponsored by Party Poker but I expect this one to be quite good. Especially if they can bring in some people that could be comfortable under the spotlight.
I can't wait until it premieres. Calacanis definitely has awesome insights and diction. I am pretty upset with Facebook atm as well. They definitely think they "own" your online identity now. I was hoping Isildur1 would end up playing, but I heard he isn't showing up anymore...

Jason Calacanis is on week 2. Tonight is the last hands for the week and the loose cannon needs to make a move. Should be a good episode. For those that missed it, or don't stay up that late you can find all the episodes on pokerstars.tv
