High Stakes Poker Season 6 information
High Stakes Poker Season 6 begins on February 14th, this year they have added PokerStars as a title sponsor which presumably would mean that the videos will be made available online. We shall see. Expect a little different format with Gabe Kaplan announcing alone and Kara Scott doing player interviews while play is happening. Sadly there will be no A.J. Benza this year.
High Stakes Poker Season 5 Episode 13
Episode 13 features a good combination of entertaining players combined with decent pots. The difference between the first group of players and this group is that many of the bigger pots were played with Barry Greenstein in them which means that there is a no "deal it twice" rule. Which made for much bigger pots and likely the biggest pots we will ever see on High Stakes Poker. Last weeks show had two deal it twice opportunities, in at least one case Dario won both sides for a sweep against Doyle Brunson. It is possible that no group on High Stakes Poker will ever outperform the first series of players. The second series of players were almost the opposite. The third group (the one we are on now) seems to be a good mix of both. David "Viffer" Peat and Dario Minieri have so far brought a freshness to the table that is nice, which I think is a lesson to the producers of the show, bring in new people. Episode 12 means there are only a few shows left.

High Stakes Poker Season 5, Episode 10
Episode 10 marked the end of a lackluster session where a lot of fans complained about how little decent poker was actually played. Episode 1 through 6 were some of the best High Stakes Poker shows ever so it was not surprising that people might be a bit disappointed. After putting up the full episode GSN eventually changed their mind and pulled it from youtube. You can however still watch the shows by using the link listed above.
High Stakes Poker Season 5, Episode 9
This episode was updated accidentally by GSN and has been up and down more than a roller coaster. It features the re-appearance of Tom Dwan. The funniest moment of the show comes when Howard Lederer expects to chop a pot with Durrrr only to find that he has a very weird pair. Daniel Negreanu then says to a stunned Howard "you got durrrr'ed" it is laugh out loud funny. This is also the episode where Patrik Antonius makes an absolutely sick call against Phil Laak that has been a preview for the series for months. Once again you will need to use the link above to view week nine. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause anyone looking for these shows. It is very frustrating given that all of this videos were up on youtube at one point.
High Stakes Poker Season 5, Episode 8
High Stakes Poker Season 5 Episode 8 is the Antonio "push up's" episode. They also teased us last week with a blow up between Daniel Negreanu and Howard Lederer my guess is it will not deliver but Daniel does have a way of getting carried away when things get under his skin.
Once again this week we will put the episodes up as soon as they come online. GSN played nice last week so let's make sure to tune in at 9pm (8 central). This season so far has been full of action with the blinds being double the previous show (this season the blinds are 400-800). While there are many familiar faces thus far the clear leader of the play has been online superstar Tom "Durrrr" Dwan. Week fours show saw Tom with a big lead on Barry Greenstein with Aces only to have Barry catch up to him hitting two pair for the biggest pot of the season (over 500k).
High Stakes Poker Season 5, episode 7
Week 7 brings Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak to the table. Say what you want about their antics, it keeps the show fresh, the first segments got a little stale, the poker play was phenomenal at times put only serious poker players enjoy that. The casual player likes the interplay between those two and the rest of the table.
High Stakes Poker Season 5, episode 6
High Stakes Poker Season 5 episode 6 will likely go down as the best High Stakes Poker episode ever. GSN decided to change the way they did things this year choosing to keep the players together in the same groups, many people complained about this and up until this week it looked like a flawed decision. That was until last night. I think most people recognize that the show is filmed over the course of a couple of hours but it is hard to remember what happened in the first episode and how that compares to say the sixth one. The 920k pot between Barry Greenstein and Tom Dwan is the stuff of legend. At least three players at the table suffered significant losses and it weighed on their faces as the show went on. Week six is easily the most popular episode EVER on high stakes poker.

The show was a bit of a sleeper but Daniel Negreanu goes a bit "tilty". While Daniel has been very unlucky on High Stakes Poker's in seasons past this year he is just playing bad. GSN initially put all of these shows up in their entirety on youtube and since has taken all of them down, I am going to leave up the snippets from each week but to view them use the link at the top of the page or the link from week six. If the shows become available online sometime in the future I will fix this thread. Sorry for the hassle.

This is the show mentioned above where Barry holds Jh and 9h and manages to get it all in with top pair against Dwan's Aces.
High Stakes Poker Season 5, episode 3
This show basically was the unravelling of Daniel Negreanu, "Kid Poker" found himself zigging when he should have been zagging all night. Eventually Daniel runs into quads, Daniel previously lost too quads against Gus Hansen when Gus caught up to his full house, while this was not near as big of a bad beat David Benyamine rakes in the enormous pot. Once again extending Daniel's unlucky streak on HSP.

Week two featured a hand that will not soon be forgotten between Tom Dwan, Peter Eastgate and Barry Greenstein. It is the last hand of the night but you will want to continue to watch. This hand seemingly set up some hands in future shows.
High Stakes Poker Season 5, episode 1
This show capped off the season that was much anticipated. While High Stakes Poker has long been the most popular show on GSN they experimented briefly with the World Poker Tour causing a year and a half hiatus. This show is the beginning of the coming out party for Tom Dwan. While Dwan is a relative unknown to poker fans he is very well known amongst online poker fans. Durrrr, is he is known online, is one of the biggest winners of the "young guns" and his unorthodox style clearly has the table baffled.

When i wrote the earlier comments, I didnt watch all of Episode 13. Now that i have seen it all... I was right about Meltzer- He imploded!! LOL! Mineri busted. Dwan felt sick after Brunson check called him to river. Peat was this season's luck box. Baxter should play at lower limits... Period!

You got to be outta of your freakn mind to think Viffer is playing great poker. They are mixing it up and I will agree with that. But they are playing like a 1-2 no limit game. Meltzer (i dont know what he is doing- just a bad accident waiting to happen) Phil Laak is well ??? LOL! Peat is one of those players i see all the time in 1-2 no limit game. Man Beanie, you must have been in a hurry when you typed your notes for episode 12 -- this one had me in stitches. When Viffer misses his flush draw the pain you can see in his face is palpable. I like Phil, but he pretty much played like a little girl the whole game, especially throwing the brick in with those aces. Wtf was that? Watching Baxter call off his $30k on the end with Ace high against durrrr was a nice way to end the show. Yummy just like a good dessert should be. My opinion, I think a couple of these players are overextended and I think one of them is heavily backed and just happy to still be getting some camera time.

Season 5, Episode 8 we wanted to watch professional poker and not some inmature kindergarten kids talking about movies and doing pushups. What is that all about? That much money on the table tells me they don't care about concentrating on what could be real poker strategy and would rather play other games. If that is what they want then they need to be playing somewhere else. Come on producers, get some real professionals in this high states game. Totally understand Daniel Negraneau's frustation even though Howard did not flash the cards on purpose. Concentration is the name of the game.

I feel keeping the same players in groups is an awesome idea. 1.Because the audience sees how plays from previous hands enter on going hands. 2.Players ego starts to come through and bad blood rages on. Finally an added bonus, feuds just feuds on and pots gets bigger and bigger! Honestly, I just want to see people lose large amounts of money, it makes me happy for some odd reason.

Dwan plays recklessly, but he is unbelievable at not only reading his oppenent, but being able to understand what makes his opponents tick. When he won the pot with Q 10, when Greenstein had aces and Eastgate had 4 2, he understood that Eastgates duece was low enough to muck to a big raise, representing A 2 or otherwise. His timing seems unbelievable on HSP, but if you watch him on FTP when he plays no limit holdem, he has tremendous swings. Still, you are right, he is an unbeliveable cash game player.

As far as whether durrrr is considerably better than anyone else, I think the gap between him and any other player at the table is larger than any other skill gap at the table. There's a reason why he has to give odds in order to get any action heads up, and even when giving 3:1 odds, he gets action only from the best players in the world. To be sure, he has played particularly well so far and he has had severe downswings in the past, but I don't think anyone can really argue with him being the best player at that table by far, and one of the top 3-4 cash game players in the world, if not the absolute best.

yes there will be more players, though I don't think Hellmuth is one (someone please correct me if I am wrong). Hellmuth is a huge cash game fish and he knows it. He talks a big game and he has enough money to show up in some really big games but his tilt factor is too high to be a consistent winner. The way they are doing it this year kind of blows. They should be moving players in and out. I think I heard somewhere that Dwan is the only one that appears in all episodes.

This is a conspirasy theory. D. Neg played like the biggest fish you would ever see in High Stakes Poker Season 5. Now one cannot find out how silly he played because all are deleted. Censorship is a good thing, no?
