High Stakes Poker Season Five, show two - Full Episode

Update: We have created a page specifically for High Stakes Poker Season 5.  One convenient place to find exactly what you are looking for. I will be live blogging this episode as I am watching the show and adding the shows when the videos become available (which should not be long after the show is over). The show starts off with a $1,600 sleeper straddle from Eli Elezra, basically, as long as no one objects and it is folded to you, the straddle stays. Doyle Brunson has Kd Kc on the opening hand and is slow playing by not raising.  The flop came Jd 5h 5d.  Doyle checked, Daniel raised and Eli re-raised to 25k.  The turn was a blank, a 4c, Eli bet $50,000 and Doyle called, continuing to slowplay.  The river bricked as well and Eli was wise enough to pull back.  Doyle takes the hand after 2 bluffs from Eli.  Eli had A 6 the whole time, that sleeper straddle cost him over $80,000.  Doyle wins the pot of $187,700. Doyle wakes up with JsJd the very next hand.  This time he chooses not to call raising the hand to $7,000.  Eli cals with Qd9h.  The flop comes Q 6 10.  Goes check all the way until the river.  Turn brings an Ace and the river brings another 10, Eli bets and Doyle makes the crying call.  Eli Elezra picks up the pot of $30,800. Ziigmund (Ilari Sahamies) straddles for $1,600 after being goaded into it by Eli.  Peter Eastgate limps with Jd 10d.  Ziggy wakes up with 9s9d and raises to $12,600.  The most interesting part about the hand is the chatter in the background (mostly led by Barry Greenstein) about the UB scandal.  Ziggy leads out on a flop of A J 6 with two clubs, and Eastgate calls.  The chatter in the background is about the players that were playing online during the scandal and how their games have changed for the worse because they now play scared.  Presumably they are referring to either Thomas Keller (one of the people most affected) or possibly Mike Matusow who has been very open about his contempt for Russ Hamilton given his losses during the UB Scandal.  The turn brought a 4 and Eastgate bets $39,000.  Ziigmund actually calls with his nines, Gabe Kaplan calls him out for playing so badly out of position.  The river pairs the Jack and Eastgate bets $85,000, Ziigmind goes with his read and calls for 85k losing the pot valued at $318,000, the biggest pot of the session so far. Tom Dwan plays this hand with a 9d 7d, entering the pot for the first time tonight, which stands in stark contrast to last weeks show in which Dwan played all but a couple of hands.  He raised the hand to $5,600.  Two players called Eli with 6d 6c and Ilari with 8d 5d.  Daniel woke up with Ah Qh and raises to $27,600.  Dwan makes the call after asking Daniel how much he is playing (Daniel says 200k).  Eli then moves all in with his sixes for $99,700.  Daniel calls and Dwan folds.  They agree to run two boards for the $235,800 pot.  The first board comes A 3  J 3, but the river is the bingo card for Eli when he hits the six.  If he can win the next board he will win the whole pot.  Daniel's bad luck on High Stakes Poker continues.  The next board once again brings an Ace for Daniel accompanied by a 10 and a 7, Eli can go runner runner for clubs.  The turn brings a K of clubs to give the table a decent sweat for the river, but the 5 of heart bricked the river and Eli and Daniel whacked up the 35k that Dwan originally put in the pot. The next hand saw Daniel raising small with 4c 2c, Dwan calls the $2,500 on the button with 8s 8c.  The flop comes 9 9 Q with two clubs.  Daniel checks and Tom makes a standard bet.  Daniel makes the call out of position.  The turn brings yet another 9, Daniel checks and Tom becomes suspicious of Daniel's continued checking, so he checks his full house nines over eights.  The river brings the King of spades and both players check.  Dwan wins his first pot of this episode worth $16,000.  Daniel was lucky that the river did not bring a club. There is a lot of strategy discussion happening at the table tonight. Dwan raises the next hand with Kh Qh, Ziigmund raises his button with As 3 h.  Tom flops broadway (nut straight), which makes Ziigmund a pair with a bad kicker.  Goes check check.  The turn brought a 7 of clubs and now the board has 3 clubs, both players again check.  The river brings a 5 of spades.  Dwan checks his straight and Ilari bets $16,000 into the $28,000 pot with his Ace and a bad kicker.  Dwan raises him $44,300.  Ziigmund makes the call to lose another big pot, this one for $149,200.  Ziigmund has made two awful calls tonight and is clearly out of sorts. Dwan raises early with Kd 9s.  Virtually everyone calls, including Daniel with two sevens.  Eastgate raises the button with 10d 3d.  Flop comes 5s 4d 7c.  Eastgate leads for 20k, Daniel then pops his set given that the board is a bit scary and that possibly Peter would have a big pair and lose his mind, so he makes it $55,000.  Unfortunately for Daniel, Peter had nothing and folded. Dwan once again decides to lead the table in strategy talk after the hand is over.  Most of the other players are happy to just listen. Dwan raises his button with Q 10 and gets both the blinds as callers.  The flop comes Q 10 7, which hits Tom square in the face.  Tom is running like god, unfortunately the other two players missed completely. Peter Eastgate is the big winner at the table up to this point.  David Benyamine recalls a time where he did not leave the poker table for anything (including to pee) for over twenty hours once.  The chatter at these tables are almost better than the card playing. Daniel raises the $400-$800 blinds to $2,500, Tom magically has the button again (the hands aren't played in succession for taping purposes) and raises the pot to just under 10k.  Eli wakes up with A J in the blinds and makes the call.  The flop comes Qd 3d 7h, pairing Tom's Js 7s.  Tom is running very good at the moment.  Goes check check and the turn brings a 2 of clubs.  Either Tom has mad ninja skills or he is the most unorthodox player to ever play on High Stakes Poker.  Gabe (Gabe Kaplan is the announcer on the show) continues to criticize Tom's play.  Tom bets the turn for $13,200 and Eli Elezra instantly calls, out of position with only Ace high.  The river brings an eight of clubs and Tom shows the pair of sevens with his Jack kicker, to the astonishment of everyone, including Daniel who would have won the pot with his Q 10.  Tom has everyone baffled up to this point. Barry plays his first hand of the show raising Aces.  Virtually everyone calls Barry, who seems to be playing very tight.  All eight players, see the flop to Barry's astonishment.  Peter Eastgate flops three deuces when the flop comes 10 2 2, Eastgate holds 4h 2d.  Barry bets out and Tom Dwan raises from middle position with Q 10, meaning he flopped top pair with a Queen kicker.  Eastgate flat calls on the button and Barry Greenstein also calls the $27,300 raise with his Ah Ac.  The turn brings a seven of diamonds, the pot is already over $100,000.  Barry checks and Tom fires a bet of $104,000, Peter Eastgate can not figure out what is going on and releases by far the best hand once again being completely outplayed by Tom Dwan.  In Eastgate's defense (if there is one) he is the biggest winner up to this point and has almost $500,00o in front of him and appears to not want to look at a better hand, even though his hand was quite strong.  Barry begrudgingly lays down his Aces as well and Tom picks up the pot of almost $240,000 on sheer will and guts alone and the worst of the three hands. The show ends with Tom smiling like the cheshire cat knowing for fact that he bluffed out the two best hands.  What a great show, the blinds being raised this season has made the play quite a bit better.
