Can Tom "durrrr" Dwan go Broke?

Seems Tom is down something like 7 million dollars and he has been playing lower stakes lately.  When I originally wrote this article it was almost inconceivable that Tom could go busto and indeed that seems to be what has happened.  He will be able to borrow and stay in action and his recent deal with Full Tilt Poker will help a bit but this one is going to sting.  As lofty of a perch as Tom Dwan was on at one point it is going to be very difficult for him to get back to those heights.

Update November 16th

Tom has once again gone on a big downswing and looks like Isildur is besting him quite hard.  By some accounts Tom could be bust quite soon, here is a thread from our forums with some chat about the recent matches and some rumors and such.

Update May 15th.  If you have been following our biggest daily hands and a few articles you have to be wondering if Tom Dwan is on the verge of going busto.  The last few weeks have seen multi-million dollar swings for Tom.  Tom does seem to have a bad habit of not quitting when he is down and his tilty sessions are epic.  Tom is likely the most comfortable high stakes player playing a fast and loose style.  The only problem with that is it works real well when your judgement is clear and lately it does not seem his has been.

Two emerging styles on defeating Durrrr

First let me just say that no high limit player sticks to one style you will get killed like that. But there are three emerging styles. The Full Flush style - This style basically is to just let Tom steal your blinds and run you over since he will pay you off big when you have it. Since he bluffs a lot feigning weakness is a good thing. The Ziigmund style - in this style you play Tom straight up in the beginning and you gamble big once you are up. In Pot Limit Omaha no hand is ever really that big of a dog to any other hand. So when Tom gets down Ziggy gambles with the money he has already won. Here is a session between Tom and Ilari (Ziigmund) as evidence. The Gus Hansen style is almost the exact opposite of Ziigmund's, Gus plays short and buys $50,000 bullets. Because of Tom also buys short, so their pots are really never that extreme. In addition to Ilari's big win Gus also had a million dollar win later in the week. If you ask people that know Tom well he has a big nest egg to draw from and his style is unique but he certainly would not be the first to run it up big and lose. People are catching up to Tom and time will tell whether or not he can stay in action. Without him the high stakes landscape would be dramatically different. All of that said Tom does have a persistence that allows himself to dig out of huge holes.  He is always on the top of our biggest daily hands list and I suspect that will not change for a while.

Durr is a gambler, he has devoted his life to this game pure and simple. He is on his way to being a poker legend. Dwan will bet every last penny and whatever he can borrow to stay in action. God only knows the kind of swings the kid has live at casinos and homegames.

10 is a player, but has two or three ticks that betray you, (hard to see), is more DUWW Jugon and higher profits. . ANTONHIUS best player is more reader moves, it moves over pulse, but detector lanterns for my 1-10's give it a 11.

I would actually guess higher (your guess being 10 million). I would put Tom's net worth at about 25 million. He also won a million from Gus yesterday. I think Tom showed a willingness to gamble at stakes no one has ever played at before and he won a lot of money doing so. People have caught up to him a bit. I can also tell you that Tom stakes a lot of live players, some of the best Ninja's in the game. So he does well from that too. All of that said if someone were to raise the stakes Tom would be first in line and that could be the end of him.

Durrr is a great player and bluffs well. But when hes on tilt, he blows through that 50k in minutes. He was lossing 50k with silly hands vs Gus on May 20 09. He was up for a bit, but then he just got crushed. The few pots he won he was underdog and sucked the river. The rest Gus Hansen pot bet (bluff) taking down 3 bet and 4 bet pots quite easily. He shut down dwans bluffing and in the end it seemed as if dwans was only going to lose. He won't go broke, many people would probably stake him, and he has lot in winnings. (cash and tourny) which from what i know has 10 million or something around there. He buys in for 50k. So he plays 200BI. Which is almost designed for him to have swings and not go broke. A few high stakes players have gone broke. One being phil ivery. But theses guys get paid for endorsments from fulltilt or stars or w/e and can handle loses. Tom has had maybe 2-3 bad days but i think he should know who is better then him in PLO or NLHE. Only time will tell. But because of his fame and money making abilitys he might get staked, unles people start to see him as a losing player. Bottom line is he has 200BI (assumed) so he aint going broke anytime soon

with durr you never know what's up, but it would be really interesting what his true bank account is and what percentage he uses for playing poker
