BY THE NUMBERS: ONES TO WATCH

The poker world is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the big tournaments, big stories, and big personalities in the poker world. For a few years now, the World Poker Tour has been telling us young up and comers are “Ones to Watch,” but we decided to delve into exactly which of these players deserve a watchful eye:
0 Dollars in earnings for Season XI One to Watch AP Phahurat. He is the only goose egg amongst the four seasons of players, but don’t think he has no poker chops whatsoever. He has over $500,000 in career live tournament earnings.

Number of seasons a final table did not feature a One to Watch from that season. Only Season XI did not manage to have a youngster find their way to the final six. In fact, with just $75,230 in combined earnings, this group was the least successful group of Ones to Watch ever.

Number of people who have repeated as a One to Watch. Two members of the inaugural class, Maria Ho and William Reynolds returned for more in Season X. Since then, no other players have repeated as part of the Ones to Watch cast.

Number of players who made a WPT final table before being named a One to Watch. That list includes Dan O’Brien (IX), Faraz Jaka (IX), Jason Somerville (X), and Jason Koon (XI).

Number of Ones to Watch players who have also found success on the WSOP tables, winning a bracelet. That lucky list entails Jason Mercier (who has three bracelets), Allen Bari, Brian Hastings, Jason Somerville, and two-time bracelet winners Athanasios Polychronopoulos and Loni Harwood.

Number of Ones to Watch who have gone on to make a final table after being named a One to Watch. That group includes Christina Lindley (XII), David Sands (X), William Reynolds (IX), Andrew Lichtenberger (IX), who made back-to-back Five Diamond final tables, Faraz Jaka (IX), and Allen Bari (IX).

Across four seasons, there have been 31 cast members of the Ones to Watch feature (including repeat offenders Maria Ho and William Reynolds.

Cash percentage rate for Ones to Watch players during their season. In fact, only six players failed to cash during their tenure as a One to Watch. The most recent cast, Season XII, had all six of their cast members cash over the course of the season.

Dollars in earnings for the seven female players on the Ones to Watch roster. The most successful one of the bunch is Christina Lindley, who made a final table and posted two other cashes for a grand total of $149,017 in earnings.

Dollars earned by David “Doc” Sands on the World Poker Tour. That is the most of any One to Watch, thanks mostly in part to his runner-up showing in the Season X LA Poker Classic. If you were to count Alpha8 cashes though, Jason Mercier’s recent victory in St. Kitts worth $727,500 would put him in the top spot.
