November Nine Preview

November 9 Group shot

The time has come to crown the champion of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event. After more than three months of waiting, the final nine players will descend on the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio on Nov. 10 and 11 to fight it out for the most coveted title in poker.
They are the 2014 November Nine. >>>

Mark Newhouse

Mark Newhouse Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: You’re a Dutch business owner. Given how much time he spends in Amsterdam, a win by Newhouse is probably better for the Dutch economy than a win by Jorryt van Hoof.

Andoni Larrabe

Andoni Larrabe
A Reason To Cheer for Him: You like trends. The last two Main Event champions (Merson and Riess) both wore sports jerseys to the final table. Larrabe wore the kit of Spanish soccer club Athletic Bilbao back in July and there’s no reason he won’t be wearing the red and white stripes again in November.

William Tonking

Will Tonking
A Reason To Cheer for Him: Want to help online poker grow? Let an online grinder from one of the few states where it’s regulated win poker’s most prestigious title. Tonking, a New Jersey resident, won’t be the next Moneymaker but he’d certainly help get people hungry again for the return of online poker.

Billy Pappas

Billy Pappas Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: He’s really good at foosball and you’re really good at foosball. Who’s not really good at foosball? A win by Pappas would also make it two consecutive years that a former dealer conquered the Main Event.

Dan Sindelar

Dan Sindelar Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: Every single champion from the November Nine era is a college dropout. Sindelar, who now lives in Las Vegas, dropped out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to pursue a poker career. So much for higher education.

Bruno Politano

Bruno Politano Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: Look, the last time anybody named “Bruno” won a world title of any importance Bruno Sammartino was pinning Stan Stasiak at Madison Square Garden to win the WWWF title in 1973. Also, part of his rail is a guy in a Scooby Doo costume. Who doesn’t love Scooby Doo?

Felix Stephensen

Felix Stephensen Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: He made his way to the final table rocking a San Diego Chargers hat. The last time somebody won something wearing Chargers gear was 1963 when the Chargers won the AFL Championship.

Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: Representing the online poker MTT superstars, Jacobson does not yet have a major live title to his credit. Had Mark Newhouse not made the November Nine, Jacobson would be the one we were all talking about the past few months.

Jorry van Hoof

Jorry van Hoof Preview
A Reason To Cheer for Him: Well, you’re either Dutch — and want a homegrown champion to call your own — or you’re a frontrunner and usually pull for the New York Yankees, Alabama Crimson Tide football or Duke basketball.
