Describe your hand: I suppose this was a bluff, or maybe the guy was drawing to lower flush or something. Anyway betting on the river was not easy for me.

You really are playing quite deep. Are you more comfortable that way or something? I know there is a lot of talk on here about SSS, that is really a suggestion. Mostly I want people to play the way they are most comfortable.
Lets say that its the style that I want to play.
I know SSS guidelines and the way how to play it. But I don't like it personally.
Daniel Negreanu has a "teaching site" where I studied his style. Small ball game. My play is not like that either, but I have taken from him the starting bet size pre-flop 2.5 times the big blind. That way I can bet bet and bet. In some of the tables here I bet all the time and ppl fold.
This is partly inherited from my tournament play - I am much more used to it. One good thing for playing also these more marginal hands is that people can't put you into hands. I even bet with cards like 56s pre-flop if I am the first raiser and if I want to play those. I don't always play those. And those are easy to fold if you don't hit.
If I am having a good run of cards and winning pots, then I add more aggression to my game and start attacking even more.
If I had a roll for bigger stack games, I would prefer putting the max stack on the table.
That way I can win much more, - as you Beanie said in your other post.
ok a couple of things about this hand, first your opening raise should be a little bigger 3x instead of 2.5, then your flop bet should be smaller (you went for full pot of .80 when .60 will accomplish the same thing for cheaper, remember most of the time in holdem you dont have a hand on the flop so betting less makes your cbets cheaper). On the turn you now go to 1/2 pot where I would either go with 2/3 or check behind. On this particular turn card(and any other non face cards including the ones that pair the board) I like a check behind as any hand that has called you on the flop is going to for sure call you on the turn when this card hits. If a face card would have hit the turn I would have liked a bet there as your opponent would be scared of this card and it would likely cause him to fold. On the river the thinking is the same. I'll let you in on a little secret here that I dont think many on this forum may realize upon first glance at this hand: you had a winner here. Yes on the river your hand was likely good. Think about it what legitimate hand that has called preflop, flop, and turn bet is now gonna fold to that harmless river card for only 2.10 bet?? Ace high likely had him beat, he likely had a smaller club draw or a straight draw that missed. You may fold out some really week hands that beat you like mid pr no kicker but I think his range is weighted towards missed draws here (after he folds to your river bet of course). How does that really help you in this hand as we only know you likely had him beat after he folded to your river bet? Well the key to this decision on the river is realizing that our opponent never folds a better hand than ours. Next time if you get to the river and all the draws have missed and all low non scary cards have come out check behind and you'll be amazed how often the pot still comes your way with just A high.
Ok thanks for the advice. You gave me lots to think about.
I vary my pre-flop bets, most common are 2.5x, 3x. Maybe I should not use 2.5x. Of course if there are callers I will raise the bet size if I have a hand.
The idea behind my turn bet was more like a blocking bet. I wanted to bet so much that he would not bet big and leave me in bad situation. Some of the sharp guys notice when you stop betting and they bet immediately sometimes fairly big. You said 2/3 or check behind, but I was the first one to bet. So no checking behind was possible.
Can you explain me why 2/3 is better than 1/2? That is not so clear to me.
As I also mentioned in my post that one possibility was that he didn't have anything. But what if he had a small card paired for example? Ok I admit that most probably he had a draw too. I wish it had been a flush draw and a flush card would have hit. Then I would have the max of his stack.
