UTG episode about backing and taxes

Hey!

This is not the newest episode, but imo one of the more interesting

Is the payment behavior really that bad in the poker community? The make it sound like every poker player is addicted to something.

Is there some sort of an exemption for playing poker in the US? From what point on does the government call you a poker pro?

In Germany, law sees poker as gambling, not as a skill game. And it is (by law) not allowed to raise a tax on gambling. Whats the situation in your country?

can't see the video right now, but in the USA most any income is taxable.  There's a place on the tax forms for gambling income.  Poker would definitely fall into that category.

Technically in the US even money made illegally is taxable.  Of course people don't report that stuff, but I think that's basically how they got Al Capone.

I don't think the US Govt has a category of poker pro; they don't really care.  Even money earned by amatuers would be taxable just as it would be by someone who is a pro.  Of course you can offset losses, etc. within certain rules.

Is that what you were asking?
