Why it should matter to you?

One of the people that I learned poker from was a guy named Eddie G.  Eddie was a real quiet guy that didn't say very much, he was fun to hang out with and if he said something that usually made a big impression on me.  I was very frustrated, I was losing so I stepped down for a bit and couldn't make any headway.  I mentioned this to Eddie and he said "yeah, it's tough to play poker with people that don't care about the outcome".  What he meant was obvious, the stakes didn't matter to these people so they played like idiots.  In general you want to play with idiots but too many idiots spoil the party.

Which brings me to another point.  For every person that is working on their game and contributing to the forums and such there are 4 to 5 people that aren't.  They don't follow the bankroll guidelines and they try to win the lottery off of the first ten dollars.  Frankly that is moronic.  If you look at most of the people that contribute to this forum many of them have received WAY more than $10, many in fact are staked.  If Presum3vil or Doomsayer (I only use them because they were 2 of our first users) needs $50 I will send it to them, no questions asked.  They are in this for the long haul.

In short, this should matter to you because this is an opportunity of a life time for the people that try.  I am looking for people to stake, I am looking for people to help win and I share everything I have learned in over 20 years of playing winning poker.  I laugh at the people that run up there $10 to $20 then sit down at .25-.50 and take a bad beat when their Kings get busted by Fours because the bad beat wasn't that they lost the hand, their bad beat was that they were stupid enough to not follow the rules.  I don't have a lot of criteria available to me on how to judge people, so I judge people based on the info I have.  If you want to have a chance I am asking that you follow the rules.  I can really only think of one case in the last six months where someone followed the rules and just couldn't win.  Just for the simple fact that they followed the rules I did everything I could to help them with money and time.

Which takes me back to Eddie G's lesson.  Rules matter, they are what separates moron's from people that take money off of the table and buy things for their families, their loved ones or themselves.  My wife doesn't complain when I play poker because for one I am respectful to my family in regards to when and how but also because it pays for stuff.

If you want to win the lottery go find cans in a trash can and sell them and maybe you will get lucky.  Doubtful though, real winners in life know what matters.  Opportunity matters.  Don't blow it.  Next time you think to yourself my wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend just doesn't understand.  They would understand a hell of a lot more if it was something you were serious about.  Something that you took time to get better at.  If you don't do that you are just gambling and frankly, that is not what we are doing here.

Well if that doesn't spell it out for you guy's I really don't know what will. Paul is giving everyone an equal shot and a very great opportunity to those willing to put in the effort. It takes time to get there, it takes time putting in the hands. Paul, Bobby and Ian, are here to guide you through the micro stakes and hopefully turn us into winners. No questions here are stupid, no answers are either. We are all working on a common goal, which is to become winners.

So do yourself the favor take the time, work on your game ask lots of question and you to maybe the next player to break through with your game. Hell even add me on skype (presum3vil) if you need help on the lowest of stakes(NL2 to NL10) or with SSS. I can offer my help anything higher you will have to ask the pros.

great post, inspired me to quit being lazy and start getting more active on forums

you know what's funny though is that I have been very inspired by the people that are contributing.  It's nice to see how supportive everyone is with one another.  For me though I find myself trying to practice what I preach more.  Leverage is pretty important in pretty much anything you do, I am sure I will run bad or whatever at some point but it's nice to have the accountability I have with you guys.  I have also really enjoyed my time at the tables lately, that hasn't always been the case.

Actually, I followed the rules as I understood them when I signed up(they were changing frequently during this time) and as you put it "just couldn't win", however to be honest I made mistakes in my play I could've avoided & had to overcome a serious tilt problem. I also must admit I have not been contributing to the forum/community yet, except to read some strategy articles/posts when time has permitted, though that will change in the near future hopefully. As it is I can find very little free time even to sit down and play & have had to deal with some rough personal issues lately, however I still upload hands/sessions & plan on joining the community here more properly as soon as life permits me the extra time. As it is I had my acct balance virtually gone, then I received rakeback for the month of November & have been slowly working my way back at $.02/.04 LHE on UB. So far this month I've ground my way from $1.29 in the acct to $5.42 & I plan on continuing to grind my way back to a decent bankroll through perseverance, patience, & intelligent play.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop up and say thanks to you Beanie, and even though I haven't been the greatest or most deserving recipient of your program thus far I plan on turning things around & making an effort to rectify that, and I do appreciate all you do here & have done for me.

I want to thank you beanie for helping me start which i greatly appreciate, I am working hard to pay back your faith in me which I think I am doing quite well.

Even though I do not contribute a lot to the forums, I still read every post which helps me and I plan to contribute more:)

If anyone would like some advice on how to beat 4nl cash game on doyles full stacking contact me:)

while he doesn't talk much kurtdrago might be one of our more successful people.  He has been around since the beginning and has played consistently.  I have to admit to playing favorites to the people I talk to the most.  The fact that he and a few others have done extremely well by simply reviewing their play is a testament to hard work.

Great post! I think I read this probably about 5 other times before I started posting here the other day. Makes so much sense, if you want to be a winning player then you have to do what the others are not. Spend the time to learn and study your game. Just like any other job, or degree hitting the lotto plays no part in long term success. I've probably read every post on the forum - and the fact that everyone here really cares if the others do well and learn from mistakes, and progress in the game says a lot.

definitely an informative post, and I agree that it is important to get involved and learn through the forum

Hi all , great post i have to say. Ok i am new to this site and this is my first post. Here go's: I signed up for the free Doyle's Room bankroll and received my first $10 the other day. I followed the guidlines religiously sitting down at 2 0.2/0.4c ring tables with the minium buy in of 0.80c. First session was for about 1 1/2 hours i came away $1.36 up! Had another session today but things didn't go so good i'm afraid. I came away $2.46 down , following the -$3 rule i have called it a day for today. I have read all posts i think regarding the rules to continue getting the free bankroll ( i need to have bluff tools open all the time) do i need to send my hand history manually or does the application do this for me? I am a frequent player on some other sites also ie: Fulltilt ,and i keep to the bankroll strategy recommended . I have been playing for approx 8/9 months now and my initial $150 deposit has swelled to $434 which i am very proud of. I have yet to withdraw any $'s as i am in this for the long term (wanting to improve my game) I play in a weekly pub league which i am doing very well in also . I have over a dozen poker books which i have a lot of praise to give the authors , Dan Harrington and Phil Gordon have improved me form a novice to a competent player if you don't mind me saying. But i am really wanting to get some feedback from you guys on here. This seems to be a very friendly and incouraging site and i have to thank you for the initial free $'s on Doyle's room . I really don't want to waste this money and would like to get some advice from you all , many thanks for reading me babble on , regards Barry
