You played it right but just got slightly unlucky. Short stack play is like this, it will prepare you mentally over time. Volume is the key, variance is a big part of that. Overtime though that 13.5% spread makes a big difference, not to mention all of the times they fold and you just pick up the pot.
as Beanie says, With SS if you are faced with a 1 raise only with the SS you go ALL IN regardless, if you hold JJ+, AK
If more than 1 player raises, like a raise and reraise you go ALL IN with only KK, AA all other hands you fold. Just the variance , over the long run these plays are very +EV
